Kenneth P. Keene

Probate Law
Experience: Ken Keene practices estate planning and estate administration
law in Colorado and Arizona. His experience includes working with
individuals and business owners to provide personal attention
to their specific needs and objectives, with a view towards producing
a comprehensive estate plan which is understood by the client
and prepared in a timely manner. Services available include Wills,
Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Charitable Planning, and Marital Agreements.
Ken began his career serving in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate
General's Corp from 1965 through 1969. From 1970 through 1994
he was a principal in the Colorado Springs firm of Hecox, Tolley,
Keene & Beltz. From 1995 until late 2003, Ken was a partner
in the Colorado Springs branch office of the Denver law firm of
Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons. In October of 2003, he and Beth
Sparks opened their new practice.
Education: Ken attended Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) from
1958 through 1961, and graduated with a B.S. from the University
of Nebraska in 1962. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from the University
of Nebraska College of Law, where he was Managing Editor of the
Law Review.
Professional and Civic Activities: Ken is a member and past
chairman of the Probate Section of the El Paso County Bar Association
and the Colorado Springs Estate Planning Council. He has served
as Chairman and Board Member of Silver Key Senior Services,
the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region Metropolitan Board and Foundation
Board, the Penrose/St. Francis Health Foundation, the CHI
Mountain Foundation and the Cheyenne
Mountain Zoological Society.
Bar Admissions: Ken is admitted to practice law in Colorado,
Arizona and Nebraska.
Beth M. Sparks
Estate Planning Law
Probate Law
Experience: Beth Sparks practices estate planning and probate
law in Colorado.
Beth's estate planning and probate experience includes Wills,
Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Living Wills, and other estate
planning documents. In addition, Beth handles prenuptial and postnuptial
agreements, as well as a wide variety of corporate law, including
incorporations of different types of entities in the State of
Colorado.
Prior to starting Keene & Sparks LLP in October of 2003,
Beth was an Associate with the law firm of Rothgerber, Johnson
and Lyons LLP in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1997 to 2003.
From 1994 to 1997 Beth worked as an Associate with Dorsey &
Whitney in Denver, Colorado, specializing in securities and transactional
law.
Education: In 1990, Beth received her B.S. summa cum laude, from
the University of Colorado at Boulder. Beth holds a J.D. from
Harvard Law School (1993), and from 1993 to 1994 she was a law
clerk for Chief Judge Sherman Finesilver at the Federal District
Court in Denver, Colorado.
Professional and Civic Activities: Beth serves as a member of
the Colorado Springs Estate Planning Council and Probate Council.
She is an active board member of the Penrose/St. Francis Health
Foundation, the Goodwill Foundation and the Colorado Springs Fine
Arts Center Board.
Bar Admissions: Beth is admitted to practice law in Colorado
and Massachusetts.
Joy Alexander
B.A. Principia College, 1970
Joy has over twenty years experience overseeing and administering
trusts and probate estates, having served as a trust officer in
banking environments. She has worked with Ken Keene and Beth Sparks
since 1997 and is the firm's paralegal specializing in probate
administration. Joy also has experience in corporate and business
transactions.
